Water released from Hirakud reservoir reaches Mundali in Cuttack, check details
Due to increased rainfall in the upper catchment area, water is being released from the Hirakud reservoir through a total of 20 gates now
Cuttack: Water released from Hirakud has reached Mundali in Cuttack district of Odisha. At least 530,638,000 cusecs of flood water has flown through Mundali till 7 am. The water level is also gradually rising. The water level of Mahanadi at Mundali is 88.20 feet at the upper reaches and 85.70 feet at the lower reaches.
According to the information by the chief engineer of the Water Resources Department, if the water level increases, a flood situation may arise in many riverside areas in the lower catchment areas, including Kathajodi, Kuakhai, Daya rivers.
Due to increased rainfall in the upper catchment area, water is being released from the Hirakud reservoir through a total of 20 gates. District Collectors have been instructed to prepare for possible rain and flood situations. The Special Relief Commissioner has discussed preparedness with the District Collectors of 18 districts to tackle potential rain and flood situations. If necessary, fire service and ODRAF teams will be deployed to assist in relief efforts.
