Puri: Sanjay Behera alias Para, a wanted criminal involved in more than a dozen criminal cases, was injured in an encounter with police at Biragobindpur here on Monday.
Para was wanted for his alleged involvement in the Bhagu Pradhan firing incident that occurred in Puri town on April 11 this year.
The accused Para has sustained bullet injuries on his right leg during an encounter with the special squad of police comprising of officials from Puri Sadar and Sea Beach Police Stations. Police said Para was rushed to Satyabadi Community Health Centre (CHC) first following the encounter and then shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack.
Reports say a gun battle erupted between the wanted criminal and the special squad after cops got a tip-off on Para’s presence on the Cuttack-Puri National Highway near Biragobindpur this morning and tried to intercept him. In the ensuing gun battle, Para was nabbed after being struck by a bullet on his leg.
