Veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty dies while undergoing treatment in Gurugram

Veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty died while undergoing treatment at Medant Hospital in Gurugram, in the southwest of New Delhi, at the age of 66 years.

New Delhi: Veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty died this evening while undergoing treatment at Medant Hospital in Gurugram, in the southwest of New Delhi, at the age of 66 years. Mohanty’s nephew confirmed about his death at the hospital.

It is to be noted here that Mohanty had recently gone for a film shooting when he complained of health discomfort, following which he was rushed to a private hospital. He returned home after treatment. But again his health deteriorated a couple of days ago and he was rushed to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Soon, he was put on the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital as he was suffering from liver cirrhosis. However, following the advice of the doctors, his family members airlifted him to the Medant Hospital after his condition deteriorated and he needed organ support. But unfortunately he breathed his last today while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

As the news of his demise spread, his fans, admirers, and well-wishers along with several important personalities expressed their deep condolences on social media platforms.

Beginning his career from Odia film ‘Abhimaan’ in 1977 Uttam Mohanty has worked in more than 150 films including ‘Nijhum Ratira Sathi’ (1979), ‘Phula Chandana’ (1982), ‘Jhiati Sita Pari’ (1983) and Danda Balunga (1984). He has also acted in a few TV serials including ‘Sara Akasha’. This part, Uttam Mohanty also has shown his acting skills in 30 Bengali films and a Hindi film, ‘Naya Zaher’.

Mohanty has got the most prestigious Jayadeb Puraskar in 1999, besides Odisha Living Legend Award 2012 and Odisha State Film award for several times as Best Actor for his work and contribution to the film industry.

Mohanty’s wife, Aparajita, and son Babushaan are also very well-known actors of Odia film industry.

Meanwhile, condolences from the people of all walks of life poured-in for the veteran Odia actor.
