Bhubaneswar: Vehicle checking in Odisha will be intensified from January 1 after 15 days of awareness drive on ‘no petrol without pollution certificate,’ informed Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur.

According to the Motor Vehicle Act, a valid pollution certificate is mandatory. The government also gives priority to environmental protection in transport. In view of this, Thakur chaired a meeting yesterday to review the implementation of the decision to not give fuel at petrol pumps without a valid pollution certificate and to ensure the convenience of the public. The meeting was held at the Regional Transport Office, Bhubaneswar-1 Conference Room and was attended by representatives of oil companies and dealers’ associations.

Everyone welcomed the steps taken for compliance with the Motor Vehicle Act and environmental protection. Environmental protection is everyone’s responsibility, so the cooperation of the public was sought in this direction. It was also unanimously decided in the meeting that awareness will be created among the public to get a pollution certificate in the coming days. This awareness will be spread for at least 15 days before implementing the decision to refuse fuel without a pollution certificate. Despite this, those who do not get a valid pollution certificate will be denied fuel at petrol pumps in the coming days.

All the pollution certificate centers will also be informed, they will put stickers on the vehicles and mention the validity of the pollution certificate. Similarly, petrol pump employees and the public will also be made aware of other aspects of pollution certificate verification through awareness programs. Since this decision has been taken with the great objective of environmental protection, everyone is requested to cooperate in this. Compliance with the law is the main responsibility of everyone. Even from the point of view of morality, the transport department has requested everyone to come forward for environmental protection.

It is worth noting here that a valid pollution certificate is required for all petrol and diesel motor vehicles including BS-IV, BS-VI plying on the roads. Its validity has been determined as per the Motor Vehicles Act. It has also been included in the e-detection system at all tollgates in the state to verify this pollution certificate.
