Two killed in lightning strike while bathing in pond Balangir district
At least two persons were killed after being struck by lightning while taking bath in a pond at Malpara village under Khaprakhol police station limits of Balangir district on Monday.

One Tikedhar Majhi of Malpara village and Dilip Majhi of Sahajpani village had reportedly gone to the village pond for a bath today. However, it rained all of a sudden and a series of strong lightning occurred in the area.
In order to escape from the rain and lightning, both Tikedhar Majhi and Dilip Majhi were taking shelter under a tree close to the pond. But unfortunately one of the lightnings struck them causing their deaths on the spot.
The villagers came to know about their deaths only after some villagers went to the pond in order to take bath and found both of them lying in an unconscious state. When enquired, they found some burning marks on their bodies and from the given circumstances they ascertained that they died due to lightning strike.
A pall of gloom descended on Malpara and Sahajpani villages following the tragic and untimely deaths of the duo. It is said that Dilip had gone to the Malpara village on a visit to his relatives house.
