Nilagiri: A forest official was injured after timber mafias attacked them on Sunday after they were caught red handed while smuggling timber in Nilagiri area in Balasore district of Odisha.

According to sources, the mafias tried to snatch back the timbers and the vehicle seized by the forest department officials after attacking them. The forest department reportedly received a tip-off about illegal timber being transported and had rushed to the spot.

The Forest officials launched a surprise raid while they were cutting and transporting valuable teak and piasala timber in the Shimilihuda area of ​​​​Nilgiri block.

The mafias refused to cooperate and attacked the forest officials. Sajnagarh Forest Guard Budhiram Hansda was injured in the attack. After the attack on the timber mafia, the police reached the spot and started an investigation.
