State Medicinal Plants Board to launch ‘Kalinga Herbs’ as Odisha’s herbal brand

Bhubaneswar: The 6th Executive body Meeting of State Medicinal Plants Board, Odisha held on 25.09.2025 at Conference hall of Home Department.

The meeting was chaired by Satyabrata Sahu, the Additional Chief Secretary of Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department. The proposal was presented by V. Karthick, the Chief Executive, State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB).

Five-Year Vision Plan of State Medicinal Plants Board, Odisha is approved by the Executive Body.

The Executive Body of the State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB), Odisha, has approved its Five-Year Vision Plan to strengthen the Conservation, Cultivation, and Commercialization of Medicinal plants across the State.

In his address, Sahu informed that the first-year funding will be met from the Odisha Forestry Sector Development Society (OFSDS). From the second year onwards, the programme will expand through convergence with AYUSH, Panchayati Raj, SC & ST Development, and other related departments. He further announced that MoU with FRLHT (Bengaluru), IRMA (Anand), and MSSRF (Chennai) will be signed in the first week of November 2025 to strengthen technical collaboration.

The products developed under the initiative will be marketed under the brand name “Kalinga Herbs”.

To promote accessibility, the Chief Executive of RPRC has been directed to provide a dedicated outlet for SMPB products at RPRC, Bhubaneswar.

Key Outcomes of the Meeting: Five-Year Vision Plan for SMPB, Odisha is approved.

  1. Pilot year to be supported under OFSDS; convergence with line departments from 2nd year. Collaboration with reputed national institutions through upcoming MoUs.
  2. Launch of the State’s own herbal brand “Kalinga Herbs.”
  3. Establishment of a dedicated outlet at RPRC for marketing of herbal products.

The meeting was attended by senior officials including Sri Suresh Pant, IFS (PCCF & HoFF), Sri G.Rajesh IFS (CCF, PPA), Sri Gorakh Waman Kalunge, IFS (Director Horticulture), Smt. Anjana Panda (Director AYUSH), and Sri Sudhansu  Sekhar Khora IFS (Chief Executive, RPRC).

Other members and invitees present were Dr. Murugesan, IFS (PD, OFSDP – Special Invitee), Debapriya Kampa (DCF, SMPB), Anup Kumar Sahoo (Additional Secretary, PR & DW Department), and Manoj Kumar Nayak (Deputy Director, SSD Department).
