Similipal Tiger Reserve to reopen for tourists from October 18

Baripada: Good news for tourists as the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district will reopen for them from October 18 for tourist season 2025-26, informed the STR officials.

The office of the Field Director of Similipal Tiger Reserve -Cum-Regional Chief Conservator Of Forests, Baripada, issued a notice regarding the reopening of the Similipal Tiger Reserve for tourists from October 18.

“This is to inform all the tourists that Similipal Tiger Reserve will be opened for tourist from 18.1O.2O25 for tourist season 2025-26,” read the notification.

“For further details log into www.ecotourodisha.com or www.similipal.org,” it added.

It is to be noted here that the Similipal Tiger Reserve was closed for the visitors from July 1 owing to the beginning of rainy season.

However, with the reopening of the Similipal Sanctuary, tourists will once again get the opportunity to travel around the core area in an open jeep and see wildlife.

However, the entry permits can be obtained only from the Baripada Pithabata and Jashipur Kaliani booking counters from 6 AM to 9 AM and the tourists can enter the sanctuary only through Pithabata and Jashipur Kaliani.

A maximum of 25 vehicles can enter the sanctuary through the Pithabata Check Points daily, while 35 vehicles can enter the sanctuary through the Kaliani Check Points in Jashipur.

Likewise, 35 safari vehicles will also be available for tourists at all entrances to Sangku Talbandh and near Nawana, Barehipani. There is also a provision for overnight accommodation for tourists at the guest houses in Kumari, Ramteerth, Gudugudia and Jamuani.

Tourists can enjoy nature camping at Gudugudia and Talbandh. However, they have to book in advance for this. They can log on to the website www.ecotourodisha.com for overnight accommodation booking.

It has been decided that all tourists will have to leave Joranda and Barehipani waterfalls before 3 pm and Chahala before 4 pm. Like every year, this year too, the Similipal Tiger Project has arranged special packages to attract tourists and the guide system has been made mandatory. The Similipal authorities are hopeful that the number of tourists will also increase this year.
