The elephant is part of a 27-member herd that was returning to Nilagiri.
Nilagiri: A sick elephant from a herd originating from Jharkhand is currently roaming in Balasore district of Odisha, with the Forest Department maintaining a vigilant watch on its movement.
The elephant is part of a 27-member herd that was returning to Nilagiri.
According to reports, the herd was traversing through the Nilagiri Kuladiha forest when the elephant was found sick in the Kshiripada forest, located within the Betanati forest range.
The Forest Department is closely monitoring the elephant’s health condition and is making arrangements to tranquilize it for treatment, as it’s struggling to eat due to a cut on its tongue.
While 25 members of the herd have already returned, the sick elephant and one other had lagged behind, with the remaining elephant rejoining the group last night, leaving the injured one behind in the Kshiripada forest.
