Self-styled baba arrested for allegedly touching minor girl inappropriately
A self-styled godman (baba) was arrested by the Nandankanan police on the outskirt of the State Capital City, Bhubaneswar, on charges of allegedly touching a minor girl inappropriately on Sunday.
Bhubaneswar: A self-styled godman (baba) was arrested by the Nandankanan police on the outskirt of the State Capital City, Bhubaneswar, on charges of allegedly touching a minor girl inappropriately on Sunday.
According to sources, the accused self-styled godman, who has been identified as Baba Amar Das, used to clam that he can solve people’s problems through prayers. Believing him, several people used to visit his ashram with the hope to get solutions to their problems.
A couple of days ago, a minor girl also had reportedly gone to the ashram of Amar Das for some reason. However, finding her alone he allegedly touched her inappropriately on the pretext of prayers.
The matter came to the light only when the girl informed her parents about the baba’s behaviour, who in return lodged a complaint at the Nandankanan police station seeking action against him.
Based on the complaint, police started an investigation after registering a case against him under the stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and detained the self-proclaimed godman.
Further probe into the matter is underway.
