During the important legislative party meeting held at the BJP state headquarters in Bhubaneswar, attended by the CM, Ministers, MLAs, state party president Manmohan Samal, and organisational leaders, the saffron party legislators submitted a written representation emphasising the need to respect public sentiment and review the salary hike.
It is to be noted here that a bill to triple legislators’ salaries from approximately Rs 1.1 lakh to Rs 3.45 lakh per month was passed unanimously by the Odisha Assembly on December 9.
Since then, the decision was vehemently criticized by the people of all walks of life. Even Leader of Opposition (LoP) and BJD president Naveen Patnaik had denied to the take the hiked salary and requested the state government to use the funds for the welfare of the poor people.
