Puri: The Puri Municipality has now become Puri Municipal Corporation as the Housing and Urban Development Department of Odisha government has issued a formal notification in this regard.
In a press release, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that Puri, a famous pilgrimage destination in India, is the abode of Lord Shri Jagannath. Thousands of devotees, pilgrims and tourists from all over the country and abroad throng here every day.
In order to provide quality facilities to the residents, devotees and tourists of Puri, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on July 3 this year to grant the status of a Municipal Corporation to Puri.
The development has created a wave of happiness and joy among the residents of Puri City. With the up-gradation as Municipal Corporation, a large urban area will be created with extensive infrastructure development in Puri and the surrounding areas.
This apart, 4 towns of the state have been upgraded as Notified Area Council (NAC). The four places are Loisingha in Balangir district, Chandikhol in Jajpur district, Jashipur in Mayurbhanj district and Basta in Balasore district.
Along with this, a circular has also been issued to expand the jurisdiction of Berhampur Municipal Corporation, which Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had earlier announced on August 31 on the occasion of Local Self-Government Day.
