PEO and GRS arrested for embezzlement of govt funds of Rs 21.98 lakh

Two government functionaries including a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) and one Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) were arrested by Odisha vigilance on charges of embezzlement of government funds to the tune of Rs 21.98 lakh.

Puri: Two government functionaries including a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) and one Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) were arrested by Odisha vigilance on charges of embezzlement of government funds to the tune of Rs 21.98 lakh.

The vigilance officials arrested PEO Tuna Pradhan and GRS Sagar Kumar Das, both of Kanas Panchyat Samiti in Puri district for misappropriation of government money amounting to Rs 21.98 lakh meant for Old Age Pension (OAP) and Madhubabu Pension Yojana (MBPY) without distributing the same amongst beneficiaries to OAP and MBPY beneficiaries during FY 2022-23 to 2024-25.

In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No.20/2025 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(a) of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018/316(5)/61(2) BNS has been registered against the PEO and the GRS.

Further investigation is continuing.

Earlier in the day, one Soumya Ranjan Kheti, the principal of the Adarsha Vidyalaya in Binika of Subarnapur district was arrested by the Vigilance sleuths for embezzlement of Government fund to the tune of Rs 55 lakh.

Soumya Ranjan Kheti was arrested for embezzling Govt. money to the tune of Rs 55,02,610 under MDM, Mo School Abhijan, and Girls’ Hostel Fund Contingencies during the financial year 2021-22 to 2024-25 by abusing his official power.

Kheti was appointed as Principal of Binika Adarsh Vidyalaya w.e.f.29.09.2021. Inputs were received regarding misappropriation of govt funds by Kheti during his tenure, which were enquired into.

Following an enquiry, Odisha Vigilance has registered a case vide Sambalpur Vigilance P.S. Case No.19/2025, U/s 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (a) P.C.  (Amendment) Act, 2018/316/61(2) BNS against Kheti. He has been arrested in the case and is being interrogated to ascertain the details of misappropriation and use of the govt funds.
