So much so it allegedly offered money and used manpower to broadcast negative and exaggerated news against KISS University.
Bhubaneswar: OTV, which claims to be Odisha’s No 1 channel, has reportedly crossed all boundaries of low journalism to defame world’s largest tribal educational institution KISS University. So much so it allegedly offered money and used manpower to broadcast negative and exaggerated news against KISS University.
Besides, it seems the newsroom of this regional TV channel has turned into a war room regarding the recent KISS incident as it telecasts exaggerated news repeatedly since several days.
It is being alleged that some tribal people are also being bribed and are forced to speak against KISS. Yesterday, some employees of the concerned TV channel, Odisha Reporter’s Saroj Behera, Bikas Behera of the web portal Bhubaneswar Bulletin reached the main gate of KISS University and tried to enter the campus of the University with some hired female goons to stoop to any level and create chaos there. When the on-duty security guards of KISS University protested their forceful entry into the KISS campus, they were manhandled and attacked physically. Some videos of the incident have been captured in cameras.
Eyewitnesses said that vehicles of the concerned TV channel is doing rounds not only during the day but also at night and not leaving any stones unturned to gather anti-KISS information. It attempts to collect misinformation regarding KISS and its management from the local residents and employees of KISS.
Even the students of KISS alleged that they are followed and being forced by the reporters to speak against KISS, which directly affects their studies.
The KISS that OTV is trying to defame is a renowned tribal university in the world. Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) is a pioneer in tribal empowerment. Founded in 1993 by Dr. Achyuta Samanta in Bhubaneswar, KISS is the world’s largest residential educational institution exclusively for tribal children. The institution, which started with just 125 students, today provides comprehensive education to students from 62 different tribes.
More than 40,000 students are currently studying. About 40,000 students have passed out and are working in various places. The biggest specialty of KISS is that it provides free education, accommodation, food, healthcare and vocational training to children from very poor tribal families from KG to PG and PhD.
KISS has been recognized as a ‘Deemed University’ since 2017. It focuses on the preservation and empowerment of tribal culture, language and heritage. it was awarded the prestigious ‘UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize’ in 2022 for its innovative ‘Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education’ program.
KISS has also been granted special consultative status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and is a partner of global organizations such as UNICEF and UNFPA.
Through education, KISS is eradicating poverty and preparing tribal youth to lead their societies. Founded by Dr. Achyuta Samanta, this institution has become a model for the whole world today.
