Orissa High Court issues notice to Odisha govt over rehiring of retired teachers as guest teachers in schools

The Odisha government had on August 2 invited applications from as many as 6387 retired teachers to be engaged as guest teachers in several schools in Odisha.

Cuttack: Orissa High Court has questioned the state government over the rehiring of the retired teachers as guest teachers instead of issuing fresh recruitment.

The Odisha government had on August 2 invited applications from as many as 6387 retired teachers to be engaged as guest teachers in several schools in Odisha. The Orissa High Court has asked the Odisha government as to why retired teachers are roped in as guest teachers instead of hiring fresh candidates.

The Orissa High Court has issued a notice to the School and Mass Education Department of Government of Odisha regarding the same.

The apex court in the state has also asked for a report to be submitted for the number of posts lying vacant in the School and Mass Education department and the Higher Education Department.

The next hearing has been scheduled for October 13.
