Odisha’s Nuapada by-election to be held alongside Bihar assembly polls: ECI

Nuapada: The much-awaited by-election in Nuapada assembly constituency of Odisha will be held concurrently with the upcoming Bihar Legislative Assembly elections.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has reportedly announced the deployment of 470 officers (320 IAS, 60 from IPS and 90 from IRS/IRAS/ICAS etc.) as Central Observers–covering General, Police, and Expenditure categories–across Bihar and other states where bye-elections are scheduled, including Nuapada, to ensure smooth and transparent conduct of the polls.
It is to be noted here that apart from the general election to the legislative assembly of Bihar, the polling board also has decided to conduct the bye-elections in Jammu & Kashmir (AC- Budgam & Nagrota), Rajasthan (AC- Anta), Jharkhand (AC-Ghatsila), Telangana (AC – Jubilee Hills), Punjab (AC Tarn Taran), Mizoram (AC Dampa) and Odisha (AC – Nuapada).
Notably, the by-poll in Nuapada assembly constituency was necessitated following the untimely death of sitting MLA Rajenda Dholakia, who died on September 8.
As informed by Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R S Gopalan there are a total of 358 polling stations in Nuapada assembly segment, out of which 36 are in urban areas and 322 are in rural areas. Besides, a total of 2,48,256 voters ares there in the assembly constituency, of which, 1,22,103 are male, 1,26,132 are female and 21 are third gender voters.
