Odisha Vigilance arrests two staffers of Jaleswar Municipality in bribery case
Odisha Vigilance has arrested two staffers of Jaleswar Municipality while demanding and taking bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor (complainant).
Balasore: Odisha Vigilance has arrested two staffers of Jaleswar Municipality while demanding and taking bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor (complainant).
The Vigilance sleuths arrested Braja Gopal Ghose Mohapatra, the Dealing Assistant, Sanitation-cum-MIS Coordinator and Ratikanta Patra, the Sanitation expert of Jaleswar Municipality were apprehended by Vigilance while taking the bribe for clearing the contractor’s pending bill for the works executed by him under IEC activity in Jaleswar Municipality.
After completion of works, complainant had been requesting Mohapatra to clear the pending bill for one and half months. But, Mohapatra and Patra were demanding bribe Rs 10,000 to clear the pending bill and unless they were paid the demanded bribe, file would not be processed for release of the amount in favour of complainant.
Finding no other way, complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities. Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid today, wherein the accused Braja Gopal Ghose Mohapatra and Ratikanta Patra were nabbed by the team of Odisha Vigilance in the office room of Dealing Assistant for demanding and taking undue advantage (bribe) of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
The entire bribe money was recovered and seized from both the accused. Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the rented residential house of Ghose Mohapatra at Balasore town and his office room and rented house of Patra at Jaleswar town.
Both the accused persons have been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.
In this connection, Balasore Vigilance PS Case No.15 dated 09.10.2025 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.
