Odisha vigilance arrests Crorepati Forester, Assets worth crores seized

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance team arrested forester Niranjan Satapathy of the Semiliguda Forest Range under Koraput Forest Division on charges of possessing disproportionate assets. A case has been registered against him and he will be produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance on Saturday.
In a new development, the vigilance has found the travel history of the Forester, which has revealed that he had gone on vacation to Malaysia and Thailand.
During the raid on the properties of the forester, the vigilance unearthed unexplained assets, including 2 multi-storeyed buildings in Bhubaneswar and 1 in Koraput, 7 high-value plots, approximately 12 crore worth of gold, bank and insurance deposits worth Rs 66.42 lakhs, cash of Rs 9.28 lakhs, Bitcoin investment of Rs 1.5 lakh, and a four-wheeler.
Yesterday, the Vigilance conducted raid on properties of the forester in Bhubaneswar, Jagatsinghpur and Koraput.
Satapathy, who joined the forest department in 1988 with a salary of Rs 628 and was promoted to forester in 2014, failed to satisfactorily account for these assets.
