Odisha Police seized over 73,000 bottles of illegal cough syrup during its statewide crackdown on the smuggling and trade of narcotic-laced cough syrup.
Cuttack: Odisha Police seized over 73,000 bottles of illegal cough syrup during its statewide crackdown on the smuggling and trade of narcotic-laced cough syrup.
In the last few days, the police have been successful in seizing a huge quantity of cough syrup and arresting the accused involved in the smuggling by conducting special operations.
A total of 61 cases were registered at different police stations of the state and a total of 73,181 bottles of illegal cough syrup mixed with drugs have been seized while 181 persons involved in the racket have been arrested.
STF, Bhubaneswar played a leading role in this operation by seizing the maximum 26,658 bottles of cough syrup, revealed the press release issued by the Odisha police.
Similarly, Sambalpur district police have registered 13 cases and seized 19,908 bottles of cough syrup. Bargarh district police have seized 17 cases and 12,856 bottles, Balangir 12 cases and 5,468 bottles, Subarnapur district 6 cases and 451 bottles, Boudh district 4 cases and 1886 bottles and Sundargarh district 3 cases and 595 bottles of cough syrup.
While Sambalpur district police have arrested 66 people, Bargarh police 64, Balangir police 23, Subarnapur police 7, Sundargarh 6 and Keonjhar district 6 people have been arrested, which shows the speed of the police in breaking the drug trafficking network.
Meanwhile, DGP YB Khurania has appreciated the success of all the districts and special task forces. The DGP has informed that such operations will continue in the coming days and strict action will be taken against the drug dealers.
