Bhubaneswar: Odisha Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan today met Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari to discuss critical road infrastructure initiatives for Odisha.

In a landmark boost to the state’s connectivity, Gadkari approved projects worth Rs 29,830 crore aimed at strengthening and expanding both National and State Highways across Odisha.

Major National Highway Approvals (Rs 29,830 crore)

  • Bhubaneswar–Puri (NH-16) to be upgraded into an 8-lane express corridor.
  • Tangi–Puintala–Ichhapuram (Odisha–AP border) to be widened into 6 lanes.
  • Rourkela–Badbil–Paradip via Duburi to be developed as an 8-lane industrial corridor.
  • Pallahara–Pitiri (NH-149) to be expanded into a 4-lane highway.
  • Under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), the Union Minister has also given in-principle approval Rs 1,500 crore worth of additional projects.

Key State Highway Approvals Rs 13,069 crore):

  • Barpali–Bolangir–Kesinga–Bhawanipatna to be widened into 4 lanes.
  • Construction of a new Bolangir–Nayagarh road approved.
  • Brahmapur–Kalasandhapur to be developed as a 4-lane greenfield corridor.
  • Mohana–Paralakhemundi road widening approved.
  • Additional widening of NH-26 to strengthen regional connectivity.

New Proposal:

  • Bhubaneswar–Paradip Greenfield Expressway
  • To accelerate growth around Paradip Port, the Works Minister presented a proposal for a new greenfield expressway directly linking Bhubaneswar to Paradip.

The Union Minister also welcomed the idea and recommended submission of a detailed, comprehensive project proposal for further review.
