New Delhi: Odisha Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and discussed the long-term restoration and protection of Chilika Lake. Puri MP Sambit Patra was present during the meeting.
In posts on X, both leaders said the talks focused on a coordinated Centre-State approach to safeguard Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon, a key tourist hub and a vital livelihood source for lakhs of people.
They highlighted a science-based study by IIT Madras, which has identified ecological challenges and outlined a roadmap for Chilika’s sustainable restoration.
The matter has also been reportedly discussed with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
The leaders said Chilika’s revival is crucial for environmental conservation, economic growth, and aligns with India’s Blue Economy vision.
