Odisha govt to set up state’s second Regional Plant Resource Centre in Keonjhar district

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today held discussions with the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department and the Keonjhar administration regarding the new Regional Plant Resource Centre to be established at Sanaghagara of Keonjhar district.

It is worth noting that this centre, which is to be developed as a brainchild project of the Chief Minister, will be established as the second Regional Plant Resource Centre in Odisha on an area of ​​about 134 acres of land at Sanaghagara.

It was learnt from the meeting that this centre will be built for the development of biodiversity conservation, community centre, eco-tourism and research and education. This place will provide natural experience and thematic garden experience. In addition to various species of orchids available in Odisha, roses, bamboo, cactus, wild fruits etc. will also be placed in this centre and beautify the area.

The Chief Minister suggested that this area be kept open for tourists and the public throughout the year to develop it as a special tourist destination. Since elephant encroachment is high in this area, he also directed the district administration to take appropriate measures and suggested that deep trenches be used to prevent human-elephant conflict. The Chief Minister emphasized that the water of the Machhakandana River flowing through the area should always be abundant due to this new construction.

The center will have an orchid conservation and exhibition center, a lotus garden, a wild edible fruit garden, a fern garden, a medicinal plant garden, a flower market, a children’s play area, and local stone and wood will be used for all the furniture. It is learnt from the discussions that this construction work will be completed by 2027.
