Odisha Govt appoints 20 Executive Magistrates in Puri for New Year 2026 celebrations

Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Department has appointed a total of 20 officers, mostly Tahasildars and Additional Tahasildars, as Executive Magistrates in Puri district with the aim to safeguard public safety amid expected massive crowds during New Year 2026 celebrations.

Puri: Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Department has appointed a total of 20 officers, mostly Tahasildars and Additional Tahasildars, as Executive Magistrates in Puri district with the aim to safeguard public safety amid expected massive crowds during New Year 2026 celebrations.

As per the notification issued under Section 14 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) grants these officers executive powers from December 31, 2025, to January 2, 2026.

These magistrates, deputed from neighbouring districts like Khordha and Ganjam, can issue prohibitory orders, disperse unlawful assemblies, restrict public drinking, fireworks, loud music, and gatherings, and coordinate with police for swift action to prevent breaches of peace.
