Odisha government approves October 20 as additional holiday for Diwali. However, government offices in Nuapada will remain open
Bhubaneswar: Diwali holiday in Odisha has been declared on October 20 that is Monday. The state government has declared an additional holiday on Monday. The Revenue Department has issued a notification in this regard.
Along with this, the fourth Saturday that is October 25 has been declared as a working day. Meanwhile it is worth mentioning here that, government offices in Nuapada district will remain open on October 20
“For the holy festival of Diwali, the state government of Odisha has declared October 20 (Monday) as an additional holiday,” wrote the Information and Public Relations Department on the official X handle.
It is to be noted here that, a couple of days ago the Mukti Mandap Pandit Sabha in Puri had clarified the Diwali celebration date shall be October 20 (Monday). Apart from clarifying, the Sabha also had urged the government to declare October 20 a public holiday instead of October 21 saying that the Amavasya (new moon) lasts only 14 minutes on October 21, making it inauspicious for Diwali celebrations.
