Bhubaneswar: Odisha Crime Branch today flagged the Dhauli gangrape case as “Red Flag” case keeping in mind the sensitivity of the incident.

With the classification of the Dhauli gangrape case as “Red Flag,” the Crime Branch will monitor the progress of the investigation and the case and the senior officers of the probe agency will take immediate action and monitor the case.

This apart, the Crime Branch ADG will inform Odisha DGP about the status report of the incident every month. The Crime Branch has issued an official order in this regard.

It is to be noted here that a 17-year-old was gangraped on the Daya riverbank under the Dhauli police station limits when she had gone to the area along with her male friend on December 10. A group of three miscreants reportedly attacked her friend him with sharp objects and stones and allegedly gangraped the girl before flee from the spot.

The matter came to the light only after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint on the following day. Based on which, police initiated an investigation and arrested two accused persons. Further efforts are still underway to nab the other accused who is still at large.
