Puri: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his deep condolences over the death of a minor boy in a tragic road accident in Puri city today.

As per a post shared on the official X handle of the Odisha Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the CM expressed his deep grief on learning about the loss of life of Shreyansu De in a tragic accident at Balagandi Chhaka of Puri City and expressed his condolences to the family.

Majhi also announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the next of kin of the deceased boy.

It is to be noted here that Shreyansu, a five-year-old boy of Kumutisahi area under Puri Town Police station was going to the local market on a scooty driven by his grandfather. Another boy also was going with them to buy their breakfast.

However, a Bolero vehicle bearing registration number OD 22AC 3048 reportedly hit the two-wheeler from the rear side at the Balagandi Chhaka on the Badadanda of the pilgrimage city and dragged it to some distance causing the death of the Shreyansu on the spot.

Shreyansu’s grandfather and another boy who sustained critical injuries were rescued by the locals and admitted at Puri District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) for treatment.

Acute tension prevailed on the spot as the irate locals blocked the Badadanda by placing the minor’s body on the road and burning tyres. They sought stringent action against the accused Bolero driver.

Soon, Superintendent of Police (SP) Prateek Singh along with a team of cops reached the spot and held a discussion with the protesters. He also assured stricter action against the driver, who has been detained, after an investigation.

“It is very unfortunate incident that the minor boy has died. We express deep grief over the loss of life and convey condolences to the bereaved family members. The driver of the Bolero vehicle has been detained and stringent action will be taken against him after conducting a proper investigation into the matter,” assured Singh while speaking to the newsmen.
