Odisha: Another low pressure area likely to form by 24th October
The IMD has not provided any clarification regarding this low-pressure system
Bhubaneswar: October panic. Another low-pressure system is brewing. A low-pressure area is expected to form in the southeast Bay of Bengal by October 24, which will move northwestwards and intensify further. Some meteorologists have estimated that this system may strengthen significantly. However, it’s unclear what form it will take once it condenses.
International meteorologist Jason Nichols has also predicted the formation of a low-pressure system in the south Bay of Bengal towards the end of next week.
Meanwhile, the people of Odisha are anxious about the prospect of another low-pressure system in October, given the state’s history of devastating cyclones during this month.
In 1999, a supercyclone devastated half of Odisha. In 2013, Phailin made landfall near Gopalpur, and in 2014, Hudhud hit the state. Cyclone Titli followed in 2018.
Although there’s a possibility of a low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal, there’s no clear estimate of its potential intensity. The IMD has also not provided any clarification regarding the low-pressure system.
