Bhubaneswar: In a major development in the Odia medical student sexual assault incident in West Bengal, State Women’s Commission team to visit Durgapur in West Bengal. According to reports, three people have been arrested in this regard. The Durgapur police has arrested them, further reports stated.
It is further worth mentioning that, three people including a male friend have been arrested. A special team of Balasore administration is in Durgapur. A four-member team has met the victim and her family. According to Sec. 164, the victim’s statement has been recorded.
The team includes the District Social Welfare Officer and DSP among others. The forensic team is collecting evidence and CCTV footage of the nearby area is being examined.
Meanwhile, the health condition of the victim is stable. She has been admitted to a hospital in Durgapur. She is being treated in the ICU. The West Bengal Health Department has sought a report from IQ City Medical College in this incident. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has demanded strict action against the accused from CM Mamata Banerjee.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister spoke to the victim’s father on the phone. Expressing his condolences and promising to provide all possible help. The victim’s father has suspected a male friend. He has accused the boy of possibly conspiring with the criminals. The mother has alleged that the girl was threatened after being raped.
The student was gang-raped last Friday night. It is alleged that some people took her to a forested area near the hostel gate at around 8:30 pm and gang-raped her. The father of the victim student has alleged that she was gang-raped and also took away her mobile phone and Rs 5,000 from her. The student had gone out with a male friend. The male friend took her to an empty place on an excuse and then escaped from there. The students staged a protest outside the college, demanding increased security on the campus and speedy justice.
