Nuapada bypoll: BJD moves Odisha CEO, alleges Model Code of Conduct violation by BJP leaders

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Tuesday moved the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha and alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the ensuing Nuapada bypoll by School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond and BJP candidate Jay Dholkia.

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Tuesday moved the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha and alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the ensuing Nuapada bypoll by School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond and BJP candidate Jay Dholkia.

A delegation of the conch party led by senior leader Lenin Mohanty met the CEO of Odisha and filed a written complaint against Gond and Dholkia alleging them of violating the Model Code of Conduct by holding a meeting on the premises of an educational institutions at Nuapada on Monday.

While speaking to the newsmen after meeting the CEO, Mohanty said that BJP government’s Minister Nityananda Gond and their party candidate Jay Dholkia attended a programme at an educational institution in Nuapada and made political commitments to the Gond Samaj. “Who gave them the right to make political commitments and they violated the rule of the election commission by entering into the educational institution,” Mohanty questioned.

The BJD delegation urged the ECI to take immediate cognisance of this violation and initiate a probe into the matter.

On the other hand, the reaction of the BJP leaders over BJD’s allegation is yet to be obtained.
