Nuapada by-election: DGP YB Khurania reviews security preparedness with senior officers

In view of the by-elections to the Nuapada Assembly constituency on November 11, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania today reviewed the preparedness of the police security arrangements at the Police Headquarters.

Cuttack: In view of the by-elections to the Nuapada Assembly constituency on November 11, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania today reviewed the preparedness of the police security arrangements at the Police Headquarters.

Khurania stressed on how to conduct a free, fair and impartial by-election. He directed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines be strictly followed for security arrangements related to the visit of VIPs and VVIPs.

He also stressed on intensifying all precautionary measures including arresting suspects under Sections 110/107 Cr.P.C., preventing illegal money laundering, seizing illegal arms and illegal liquor and executing outstanding warrants (NBWs) against the concerned persons.

Additional DGP (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar emphasized on increasing the work of mobile patrolling and flying squads and setting up check posts at various entry points of the constituencies to thoroughly check suspicious persons and vehicles.

State Intelligence Director R.P. Koche highlighted important intelligence inputs related to the by-elections and advised the DIGs and SPs to keep a close watch on the law and order situation in the district.

ADG (Anti-Naxal Operations) Sanjeev Panda said that combing operations and anti-Maoist campaigns would be intensified in the Maoist-affected areas of the district to avert possible Maoist activities during the by-elections. He informed that all the plans for this have been finalized.

It is worth mentioning that 14 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), 5 platoons of State OSAP/APR, 35 mobile patrolling parties, 18 flying squads, 18 Static Surveillance Team along with district police officers/staff will be deployed for the smooth conduct of the elections.

Range DIG K.B. Sing informed the Director General of Security that necessary steps are being taken by the police to crack down on smuggled liquor, special strategies to prevent smuggling of narcotics, and to execute pending warrants. Apart from this, adequate security arrangements have been made in the strong room with CCTV coverage to ensure the security of EVMs. The elections will be conducted with strict implementation of ECI guidelines.

The meeting was attended by DGP (Crime Branch) Vinaytosh Mishra, Director (Intelligence) R.P. Koche, Additional DGP (Headquarters) Arun Bothra, Additional DGP (SAP) Rajesh Kumar, and IG (SAP) S.K. Gajbhiye and other senior police officers.
