Bhubaneswar: In a major relief for the people of Odisha, the State Transport Authority (STA) on Wednesday announced that the “No Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC), No Petrol” rule in Odisha will now come into effect from February 1, 2026, instead of the earlier scheduled date of January 1, 2026.

The decision to postpone comes in view of the difficulties faced by vehicle owners in obtaining pollution certificates. Earlier, the rule was scheduled to be enforced from January 1.

During the extended period, vehicle owners have been urged to complete essential formalities such as renewal of Registration Certificates (RC), fitness certificates, PUCC, and vehicle insurance without facing immediate penalties. The vehicle owners have been asked to make use of the extended period to regularise all required documents.

The STA also clarified that no petrol pump can deny fuel to any vehicle on the grounds of not having a PUC certificate before February 1. At the same time, the department has decided to carry out extensive awareness campaigns across the state to inform people about the importance of pollution certification.
