Minor girl allegedly gangraped by five youths in Bhubaneswar
In a shocking and shameful incident, a minor girl was allegedly gangraped by as many as five youths near the Daya River on the outskirt of Bhubaneswar recently.
Bhubaneswar: In a shocking and shameful incident, a minor girl was allegedly gangraped by as many as five youths near the Daya River on the outskirt of Bhubaneswar recently.
The victim minor girl, who is a resident of Bhubaneswar, had reportedly gone to the Dhauli Shanti Stupa on a visit along with her boyfriend. However, taking the advantage of the lovebirds’ loneliness, a group of five miscreants forcefully took her to the bank of the Daya River and raped her in turns.
The accused abandoned her and fled from the spot of crime only when the minor girl became senseless while being assaulted by them sexually.
Later, a complaint was lodged at the Dhauli police station, based on which cops started an investigation into the matter by registering a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
In course of probe, police arrested two of the accused persons. Efforts by the police is still underway to trace and nab the other absconding accused persons.
Meanwhile, the statement of victim girl was recorded in Bhubaneswar court under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in the presence of the Magistrate at the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC).
The court also rejected the bails of the accused persons and sent them to the judicial custody.

Incident Details:
- Victim age: 17 years & 2 months.
- A complaint was received from victim’s mother, resident of Khordha, alleging that her minor daughter (17) and friend were assaulted and robbed by two young persons while returning from Dhauli.
- The complainant reported theft of a 20-gram gold chain and 5-gram silver item.
- A property offence case was registered.
New Development:
- Later, complainant and her daughter returned to the police station and alleged that the victim had been sexually assaulted by the 2 accused persons.
Action Taken:
- 2 persons have been arrested and forwarded.
- A scientific team visited the spot and collected evidence.
