Measles-Rubella Vaccine Scare: Students leave hostel in Odisha

Mohana: As many as 38 students of Namanagada Primary School in Guma block of Gajapati district left their hostel out of fear even before the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine was administered on them.

According to reports, the anxious parents of the 38 students came to the school hostel on January 29 and out of fear, took them to their houses without informing the hostel authorities. They claimed that the vaccine caused side effects in the children.

However, parents of 16 children brought them back to the school hostel after they learnt that the vaccine was being administered for the good of the children.However, 22 children are yet to return to the hostel.

On the other hand, 14 students of Chadeipada Primary School under Mohana block of the district were taken ill post taking the Measles-Rubella Vaccine. They are undergoing treatment at Mohana hospital and their condition is said to be stable.
