Daringbadi: A married man allegedly raped a class 8 student on the pretext of buying slippers in Daringbadi Police Station limits area of Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
The 14-year-old victim girl’s parents have reportedly gone outside the state to work as labourer and earn livelihood. Due to this, she was looking after her four younger siblings and pursing her studies.
Taking the advantage of the absence of girl’s parents, the accused who belongs to the same village persuaded her on Friday to go to Daringbadi with him saying that her father had sent money to his bank account to buy slippers for her.
The minor girl believed him and agreed to go with him to Daringbadi to purchase slippers. However, the accused kidnapped her from the road, took her to a deserted place in the forest and raped her by threatening with a knife.
Though the minor girl was scared of the dire consequences, she informed her aunt (uncle’s wife) about the incident as her health condition deteriorated after she returned home.
Later, her aunt narrated the entire incident to her husband following which he discussed about it with the local women, ASHA worker, sarpanch and ward member and lodged a complaint at Daringbadi police station seeking action against the accused.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under the POCSO Act and initiated a manhaunt to nab the accused, who absconded after the news got spread in the locality.
