Balangir: The Navratri has begun from today and the rituals are in full swing at several Shakti Peeths in Odisha. On the occasion of the first day of Navratri, Maa Samaleswari of Balangir district will be adorned the Shailaputri Besha.

The worship of Maa Samaleswari is going on as per the rituals and traditions. To witness the divine deity taking the Shailaputri Besha, devotees have thronged to the shrine of Devi Maa. The devotees are seeking the blessings of the deity and witnessing the divine besha.

Maa wears White clothes today which signifies purity and innocence. The devotees throng to the shrine to attain inner peace and security.

Devotees have gathered in large numbers to have darshan of Mother in this attire. Since Balangir is the land of mantras, instruments and systems, there is independence in Shakti worship here.

As per beliefs, the Goddess rides a white bull called Nandi, symbolizing strength and purity. She holds a trishul (trident) in one hand and a lotus in the other. The colour associated with Shailputri is orange, representing energy and enthusiasm.
