Leaves of government employees cancelled in Koraput till September 28 for heavy rain

The district administration of Koraput has cancelled the leaves of all government employees till September 28 due to heavy rains.

Koraput: The Koraput district administration has cancelled the leaves of its government employees till September 28 amid heavy rain warnings by the IMD. Double low-pressures over Bay of Bengal is likely to induce the heavy rains in Odisha.

According to the Meteorological Department (MeT), the low pressure is likely to move west-northwestwards through south Odisha, north Andhra Pradesh and south Chhattisgarh.

Thus heavy rains have lashed out in Koraput district. This has thrown normal life out of gear in the district. Thus as a precautionary measure in case of emergency, the Koraput district administration cancelled leaves of all government employees. It has ordered strict action if any diversion is seen from the said orders.

Warnings have been issued to four districts – Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.

Similarly, a second landslide hit Kandhamal’s Kalinga Ghati today for which the district administration has decided to close it till September 30. Kalahandi district already saw the wrath of the low pressure rains in Odisha.

After assessing the situation at Kalinga Ghati. Similarly, the District Magistrate has said that two expert teams will go from Bhanjanagar and Sonepur.

It is worth mentioning that, a major landslide occurred at Kalinga Ghat in Odisha’s Kandhamal district following a heavy rainfall in the area disrupting movement of vehicles on Thursday.

As informed by sources, the landslide occurred barely an hour ago and came to light when an ambulance driver while carrying patient to Berhampur from Raikia area noticed it and informed the local administration. Fortunately, the landslide did not fall either on any vehicle or individual.

However, movement of vehicles from Berhampur and Bhubaneswar to Phulbani and Baliguda and vice versa was heavily affected as huge rocks and mud slides from the mountain blocked road following the landslide.
