Landslide in Kandhamal: Communication in Daringbadi’s Sadang Du cut off

Kandhamal: A landslide has hit again in Daringbadi block’s Sadang Du in Kandhamal district of Odisha.

Big boulders have fallen and the roads have been blocked after the landslide hit for the third time in Kandhamal district. Kalinga Ghati in the district has been hit by severe landslides for two times due to heavy rains.

The main road has been blocked with big boulders from Gahakia to Gasapanga. The communication to Sonepur district has been cut off. The Gram Panchayats of Sindipanga, Bandapanga and Gasapanga are totally cut off.

The clearing work also could not be completed as the roads have been blocked, the rescue workers could not reach the place. Even the emergency services including ambulance services could not be provided to the people.

On the other hand, hundreds of vehicle including passenger buses and cars with several people remained stranded on both the sides of the road or the spot where the landslide occurred. Currently, they are in a state of panic and fear as such possible landslide cannot be ruled out because rain continue to lash the area.

On being informed, the local firefighters along with a Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team and police personnel reached the spot and are carrying out the restoration works with the help of the local residents with the aim to clear the road at the earlier possible time so that the stranded vehicles can resume their journey.

However, the restoration works at the Kalinga Ghat, which is the lifeline of the south Odisha, is reportedly getting affected by incessant heavy rains in the area.
