Sonepur: Panic gripped as the body of a labourer was found buried underground in Binika area of Odisha’s Sonepur district, raising suspicion of a brutal murder today. The incident has triggered horror in the locality, following which police launched an investigation.

The deceased man has been identified as Prakash Mahanti, a resident of Gulapada village under Binika police station limits. He had been missing since December 18.

As per information, Prakash had returned home after work and told his family that he was going out to buy slippers. However, he never returned. Subsequently, his wife lodged a missing complaint at Binika police station.

Based on her complaint, police initiated a search operation and began investigating the case from multiple angles. During the probe, police detained five suspects and questioned them.

Acting on a tipoff, police later recovered Prakash’s body buried underground. Police suspect that he was murdered and later the body was concealed to destroy evidence.

Binika police have intensified the investigation to ascertain the motive behind the crime and identify those involved in it.

Further probe is underway.
