Internet services suspended in Malkangiri district for 24

Malkangiri district Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay today ordered suspension of internet services across the district for 24 hours as palpable tension prevailed between two villagers after a woman’s headless body was found.

Malkangiri: Malkangiri district Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay today ordered suspension of internet services across the district for 24 hours as palpable tension prevailed between two villagers after a woman’s headless body was found.

Taking to the official X handle of the Malkangiri Collector & DM, Upadhyay said, “It is being notified for the information of the general public that internet services will remain suspended across the entire district from 6 PM this evening for the next 24 hours.”


The suspension is imposed for Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and other social media services of all Mobile service providers, Mobile Internet/ data services of all Mobile Service Providers, Internet/ data services of all Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Broadband Dial up systems and any other such means or modes of transmission.

However, telephone/telecom services for the following offices shall be opened for facilitating essential services:

  • Collectorate, Malkangiri
  • Residential Office of Collector, Malkangiri
  • District Police Office, Malkangiri
  • District Headquarter Hospital, Malkangiri
  • Sub-Divisional Hospital, Chitrakonda
  • Sub-Divisional Hospital, Mathili

This apart, the district administration also imposed BNS-163 across a 10-kilometre perimeter spanning MV-26 and Rakhelguda villages and huge number of security forces were deployed after tension erupted between the villagers.

The district administration followed soon after tension prevailed among the locality after the beheaded body of a woman, a resident of Rakhelguda village, was recovered near the Dudumetla river. Her local residents alleged that she was killed by two residents of MV-26 village.

Later, a group reportedly went to MV-26 village and vandalized and torch several houses. Besides, they set several vehicles on fire.

Soon, the district administration swung into action and deployed security forces, conducted flag march and suspended internet services in order to maintain law and order situation in the locality.
