Bhubaneswar: The Odisha BJP government’s utter failure in ensuring safe environment is glaringly evident, alleged BJD president and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik today while reacting over the fresh gangrape occurred in in Bhubaneswar.

Taking to his X handle, Naveen Patnaik said, “The state capital Bhubaneswar is becoming unsafe for women, and Odisha is once again disgraced.” “When will the BJP government finally wake up,” he questioned.

“Yet another minor girl has fallen victim to gang-rape in Bhubaneswar in broad daylight—an extremely distressing matter. Where has law and order gone? Is the government, which plays false charades of being the “people’s government,” providing safety to the people at all,” the former CM said.

While the Dhauli gang-rape incident is still afresh in people’s minds, another barbaric outrage has left the common public gripped with fear, Naveen said adding that women and girls in the capital city are feeling deeply insecure and the BJP government’s utter failure in ensuring a safe environment for everyone is glaringly evident.

Before the situation worsens further, the government must become alert and take proactive steps to strictly enforce security measures and implement firm and stringent actions, he demanded.

Notably, a 17-year-old girl was raped by two persons in a rented room in Saheed Nagar in Bhubaneswar around 2 PM on December 18. She was reportedly lured under the pretext of a data entry job by one of the accused, who is known to her.

However, the victim managed to escape and lodged a complaint at the Saheed Nagar Police Station around 9.30 PM late on December 19. Based on this, police registered a case under Section 70(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and arrested both the accused persons.

Meanwhile, police have tagged the case under the Red Flag category.
