Cuttack: Floodwater from the Mahanadi River has reached the temple of Maa Bhattarika in Cuttack district of Odisha. The water has touched the foot of the temple, which is dedicated to the presiding deity of Badamba Garh, Maa Bhattarika.

The floodwater entered the temple premises after 20 gates of the Hirakud reservoir were opened.

Despite the situation, the Sodasa Upachar Puja is proceeding without any disruption at this temple. The Pujak Samiti and the Endowment Department are on high alert, closely monitoring the situation.

Although the water has reached the temple steps, it has not yet entered the main temple. However, if the water level rises by another 2 feet, it is likely to enter the temple.

Accordingly, Badamba Tehsildar has imposed restrictions on the Maa Bhattarika river ghat, prohibiting common people from bathing.

As a precautionary measure, the fire brigade and ODRF have been put on alert. If water enters the temple, then the idol of the Goddess will be shifted to a temporary temple.
