Bhubaneswar: The FIVB Volleyball Festival Week 2025 began at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) on Thursday.
The FIVB Volleyball Festival Week is being organized by KIIT and KISS in association with Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) and Odisha Volleyball Association (OVA). It will conclude on December 14.
The aim of this volleyball festival is to promote women empowerment and grassroots development of volleyball. As part of the Kanya Kiran initiative of KIIT-KISS a workshop will also be organized for women volleyball coaches from different parts of the world including Odisha.
Apart from 500 participants from Odisha, more than 200 volleyball coaches, players and experts from India and the world will participate in this programme.
On this occasion, women volleyball coaches will be trained and empowered through workshops. After receiving the training from here, they will train volleyball players in their localities, thereby benefiting more than 50,000 volleyball players.
In this training program, international volleyball coaches John Kessel and Jana Kulan will provide training in dynamic on-court training, advanced skill sessions, coach-development workshops and public participation programs in 4 indoor and 40 outdoor courts. Senior representatives of FIVB and Volleyball World Foundation have already arrived in KIIT to attend the program.
FIVB President Fabio Azevedo has always praised KIIT and KISS founder Achyuta Samanta for his work on women empowerment. It focuses on how to enhance self-confidence, leadership, decision-making and social inclusion for girls.
The Kanya Kiran initiative of Samanta stands as a unique model that combines education, community outreach and international cooperation, and is a testament to the commitment of KIIT-KISS to support female students, staff and youth – especially girls from Odisha and India.
Commenting on the event, Samanta said, “Our partnership with FIVB has brought world-class skills to Odisha through such workshops. It will provide thousands of girls and women with the opportunity to experience the transformative power of volleyball.”
