In an unfortunate incident, a man died while his 17-year-old son went missing after lightning struck the boat on which they were fishing in the sea in Odisha’s Kendrapara district.

One Bijay Parida of Tantiapal village under the Mahakalapada of the district had reportedly gone to the Bay of Bengal along with his son Manas for fishing yesterday.
All of a sudden, the weather completely changed and the clear and sunny sky was covered with a dark clouds and soon heavy rain accompanied with strong lightning occurred in the area. Thinking that it would be dangerous for them to continue fishing with such bad weather, the father-son decided to return back to the seashore.
Unfortunately, before they could reach the seashore, one of the lightnings directly struck their fishing boat following which Bijay died on the spot while his son went missing after drowning in the sea.
On being informed, the local forest officials along with the police went deep inside the sea and brought Bijay’s body along with his fishing boat but they could not trace Manas.
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on Tantiapal village following the tragic death of Bijay and missing of his son Manas. Apart from expressing their condolences over the incident, the villagers demanded adequate compensation for the bereaved family as Bijay and Manas were the only male members who used to earn livelihood for the eintire family.
In a related development, the thatched house of one Sudhir Sahoo turned into ashes after being struck by a lightning at Tandikula village under Balikuda police station limits of Jagatsinghapur district today. Though no casualty was reported, some of his property was lost due to lightning strike. The villagers, meanwhile, demanded the local administration to provide compensation to Sudhir.
