The Excise Department raided as many as 30 bars, pubs, clubs and beer parlours across Bhubaneswar during a late-night enforcement drive.
Bhubaneswar: The Excise Department raided as many as 30 bars, pubs, clubs and beer parlours across Bhubaneswar during a late-night enforcement drive.
According to sources, an excise officer was allegedly attacked with liquor bottles during the raid at a bar under the Chandrasekharpur police station limits. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the assault.
During an inspection at a bar in the Chandrasekharpur area, some people allegedly opposed the raid and attacked excise personnel and physically assaulted them. A complaint was subsequently lodged at Chandrasekharpur police station. Police confirmed that two persons have been detained and questioned in connection with the incident.
The Excise Department carried out the raid on basis of information from reliable sources that several establishments were operating beyond permitted hours and violating licensing and safety norms.
