Puri: In a historic step to enhance the safety and security of the Puri Jagannath Temple, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has declared the 12th century shrine as ‘RED ZONE.’
As per the information available on the website of the DGCA, the airspace map shows the Jagannath Temple in Puri classified in the ‘RED ZONE’ and it will remain valid for three years i.e until September 25, 2028.
The DGCA’s move to declare the Jagannath Temple ‘RED ZONE’ comes amid several reports of illegal drones hovering around the temple despite ban.
The Puri Jagannath temple and the stench of Srimandir Parikrama Prakalpa were declared as a no-fly zone. However, illegal drones used to fly over it despite the restriction. Even yesterday, following the direction of Puri SP Prateek Singh, police seized an illegal drone while flying over the temple and detained a resident of Chhattisgarh for interrogation.
However, with the declaration of RED ZONE, now it is expected that the local administration further strengthen the security of the Puri Jagannath Temple. Anti-drone devices will be installed to thwart the attempt of the illegal drones to fly over the restricted areas.
As per the guidelines of the Red Zone classification, no drone or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) can fly over the premises of the temple and the pperators must obtain a valid Unique Identification Number (UIN) from DGCA to fly drones in surrounding areas.
The decision of DGCA to declare Puri Jagannath Temple as RED ZONE has been welcomed by the people of all walks of life as it will enhance safety and security of the temple and the devotees.
