Keonjhar: The male friend of Keonjhar Government Women’s College female guest lecturer, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances yesterday, was arrested for his suspected role behind her death.
The Keonjhar Sadar Police arrested Rudra Narayan Mishra, the male friend of the deceased guest lecturer, who has been identified as Priyanka Das of Talapada village in Balasore district.
Mishra was arrested following the murder allegations levelled against him by Hemendra Prasad Das, the fraternal uncle of Priyanka.
“Fifteen days ago, Rudra Narayan Mishra over a phone call had expressed his willingness to marry her (Priyanka). But she was not agreeing to his proposal as Rudra was 45-year-old while she was just 24 years of age. He even had threatened us to convince her to marry him or else he would kill her,” Hemendra informed this to the media persons.
“He (Rudra) did exactly what he had threatened to do so. He should be hanged to death,” Hemendra demanded.
Hemendra further said, “There were grievous injures around Priyanka’s neck, chest and legs. Her legs were tied and she was strangulated to death.”
It is to be noted here that Priyanka was appointed as Home Science lecturer at the Keonjhar Govt. Women’s College and was staying in a rented house.
Yesterday, Rudra Narayan Mishra took Priyanka to the Keonjhar District Headquarter Hospital where doctor declared her dead. Later, he was trying to flee from the spot in his car after leaving the body in the mortuary. He even had made a phone call to Priyanka’s family by identifying himself as her colleague and informed them about her death after falling on the ground while locking the door of the house.
However, police chased Rudra Narayan after growing suspicion on him and nabbed him for interrogation. Later he was arrested based on the murder charges levelled against him by the family members of the deceased lecturer.
Today, Rudra Narayan was forwarded to the court after completing all the legal procedure. Further probe into the matter is underway.
