Cuttack: Huge crowds gathered near Barabati Stadium as cricket fans braved the chilly night to secure tickets for the international cricket match. From today, 10,000 tickets will be available for sale offline at the counter, with a limit of two tickets per person.
Cricket enthusiasts have been queuing up near the stadium since last night. The police had earlier announced that fans would be allowed to stand in a queue inside the barricade at 6 am today. However, due to the overwhelming response, the police allowed people to enter the barricade in phases, ahead of the scheduled time.
Thousands of cricket lovers gathered near the stadium at night and attempted to enter the barricade set up in the Directorate of Industries premises to secure their place in the queue. The police initially chased them towards the CDMO office, and later towards Cantonment Square, as the crowd grew restless and started shouting. However, as the crowd continued to swell, the police allowed them to enter the barricade in phases, starting around 11:30 pm.
DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dyandeo was present at the scene, monitoring the situation. The police force worked tirelessly to manage the unruly crowd, with some officers forgoing sleep to maintain order.
In a bid to prevent ticket black marketing, the Commissionerate Police has deployed drone cameras to monitor the area around Barabati Stadium. Additionally, 300 CC cameras have been installed for the cricket match, with 64 cameras focused on the ticket counter and barricades outside the stadium. All cameras will be controlled from the OCA control room.
