“Thanks for your letter. We reaffirm commitment to conservation of Chilka Lake, tackling climate change & ensuring sustainable development,’’ said the CM from his official Twitter handle in reply to Dharmendra.
In his letter to the CM, the Union Minister had said that UNESCO, in association with the ONGC, is planning to support the development of Chilika Lake as a UNESCO World Heritage site and enhance the value of Chilka to become an example of conservation linked sustainable development in the state.
Besides, ONGC and UNESCO are also planning long term and short term measures for protection of animals and birds, improving livelihood of the fishing community, tourist guides etc in the lake area, he had stated.
Dharmedra had also informed Naveen that UNESCO proposed to set up a world class conservation centre with climate change observatory with state-of-the-art data and monitoring facilities.
