CM Mohan Majhi unveils Odisha Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Policy 2025
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled the Odisha Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Policy 2025 during the Odisha Pharma Summit in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled the Odisha Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Policy 2025 during the Odisha Pharma Summit in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
While addressing the gathering, the CM said that Odisha is ready to emerge as a major pharma hub of eastern India by manufacturing quality medicines and developing advanced devices for treatment.
It is worth noting that 45 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth a total of Rs 6,263 crore were signed in the presence of the Chief Minister, which is expected to create a total of 38,406 jobs in the state. Out of these, 32 MoUs were signed for pharmaceuticals, 12 MoUs for medical devices and another MoU for a landmark industrial park proposal.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a dedicated Pharma Park and a Medical Devices Park at Khurda.
In his speech, the Chief Minister said that the government is fulfilling all the requirements to make Odisha the first choice state for investors. Along with this, he is also committed to developing non-traditional industries in the state. “Odisha is currently one of the best states in the country for investment. Our industrial ecosystem is one of the best in the country. Our goal is to make Odisha a major hub in the production of medicines along with other industries,” Majhi said.
The Chief Minister, “The metal, mineral and chemical sectors are the backbone of industry in our Odisha. But to make the resources of the state people-oriented, we have to go further. Therefore, we have given more emphasis on infrastructure, innovation power and knowledge-based economy. In the last one and a half years, there has been a massive diversification of industry in the state.”
“Investment has come in Odisha in sectors like chemicals, petrochemicals, green energy, fintech, electronics, semiconductors, textiles, tourism etc. From today, a new chapter has also begun in the pharma sector,” he added.
The Chief Minister said that our industry should be connected with the industry of the whole world, and our goal is for Odisha to make its mark in the industry of the whole world.
Highlighting the pharma sector, he said that in the last one and a half years, we have brought about necessary changes in the industrial policy of the state and the pharma policy. “Our pharma policy is one of the best policies in the country,” Majhi said adding that every part of the pharma sector like research, capital investment, infrastructure construction, employment etc. has been encouraged in the new pharma policy.
The Chief Minister asserted that the pharma sector of Odisha will touch new heights in the next few years and said that in terms of quality and price, Odisha’s pharma products will be the most attractive in the world, and it will also be the name of Odisha in med-tech manufacturing.
He added that the state is fully prepared to provide everything that the pharma industry needs. Odisha’s environment is completely industry-friendly. Everything that is required for the industry is available in Odisha.
He further said that Odisha has the highest mineral resources in the country, three major ports, two commercial airports, 575 km of coastline, well-developed rail and road networks, surplus power, availability of adequate water and trained manpower. Therefore, Odisha is fully prepared to become the manufacturing hub of eastern India.
