Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police today reportedly arrested four more persons for their allegedly involvement in clash during Durga puja idol immersion procession in Cuttack.
Commissionerate Police, which continues to probe the case, arrested the four accused persons of the Dargha Bazar area of the Silver City. Police arrested them based on the footage of the CCTV cameras installed near the spot where incident occurred on the night of October 3.
With the arrest of the four more persons, the total number of arrests in the case rises to 13.
A clash between two groups had erupted on Hatipokhari-Dargha Bazar road during Durga puja idol immersion procession on October 3. Tension flared as both the groups pelted stones and bricks at each other.
The Commissionerate Police had to resort to lathi-charge in order to bring situation under control. In the process, eight people including Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo were injured following the clash.
The Cuttack district administration temporarily suspended internet and social media services in some key locations of the Cuttack city. Police temporarily banned the use of social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, X and Instagram with the aim to prevent the circulation of misinformation regarding the unrest.
The district administration also had imposed a 36-hour curfew in key areas of the City to maintain law and order in the locality.
